We’ve found some interesting common mistakes that most beginners make while doing machine embroidery projects and how you can easily avoid them:

Not Test Stitching First

One of the foremost machine embroidery tips we recall suggesting is to always test stitch it out first on some scrap fabric. That way, you will get an overview of the final design or any missing threads or if the embroidery coming loose—which often happens a lot.

It will save your fabric ( where you actually want to stitch out). Moreover, you will get the final look to show to your client—plus you get hands-on experience if you are a complete beginner!

Always sew out every design you own on some white fabric, that way you will get the strong samples/portfolio to show some potential customers in the future.

Not Using a Stabilizer or Using The Wrong Kind

We cannot stress enough how important is to embroider anything WITHOUT a stabilizer. The stabilizer keeps your fabric intact –more stable.

Depending on the fabric you must choose the right one. There are many best stabilizers for machines but I’ll mention some of them that are often used such as;  water stabilizers, cut and tear-away stabilizers.

A water-soluble stabilizer that is mainly used in making patches, it kind of melts away if comes into contact with water.

Another is a Cutaway stabilizer that is especially used to embroider on some stretchy fabric, especially on the back, such as sweatshirts, hoodies, t-shirts, etc.

For the towels, Tear away stabilizer is often used if you are embroidering –mandatory for heavy-duty projects.

It is so important to use the right stabilizer to get the design just like you envisioned.

Using The Wrong Type of Thread

Consider your machine as a recipe and your threads are ingredients (not all threads and machines are alike.

Most of our clients often complain about thread breaks. It takes time to convince them about the actual mistake they make when using an embroider machine.

It’s a rookie mistake not to invest in a different brand of threads and learn which work better on your machine –that could cause plucking and ruin your beautiful fabric.

A metallic thread breaks easily for what it’s worth to have some additional flair.

If you looking for what’s the best thread for your project? –it’s polyester. But rayon thread is the most appropriate for softer designs.

Pour some integrity and creativity your project deserves-your clients deserve. So remember it is always for your own good to test it out first. It’ll save you a great deal in the future.
